now waiting in line for something they desperately need. katie marzullo is live in san jose. >> reporter: that thing is food. we are at san jose community service. look at this line you can see where it starts and tents set-up. as we pan, people brought their own tents, tarps and umbrellas, desperate for these food boxes they are willing to wait in the rain, the line goes to this corner at first street, turns the corner and goes halfway down the block. they are waiting to register for the food boxes they get to sign up for two, one for thanksgiving and one for christmas. organizers this year saying the lines are not necessarily -- necessary that they are going to have enough food. clearly people aren't willing to take any chances. >> blankets and food. and a tent. >> some of them have parttime jobs where they used to have fulltime jobs, they are really struggling now assets drying up quickly. >> reporter: in addition to the food, people can sign up to get toys for the holidays. organizers have 16,000 toys to give away this year. the doors at san jose community service open at 7:30 this m

those accessibility improvements. >> thank you. it's on ocean but on san jose as well where it's inaccessible sidewalks and ramps that are actually very dangerous. >> right. so i think san jose crush ramp improvements are done by the green yard rail project and fully funded. our board is going to be approving the contract this afternoon. moving on to -- speaking of that contract one of its key components is a new accessible boarding platform on san jose for the j and the k where people are now boarding in an area that is very close to the tracks. it has major safety inaccessibility problems so this will help address that. >> are those tracks actually going to be moved? right now there is the bench point i put on the screen last week at the board of supervisors meeting so the tracks moved and the poles taken out? is that part of the project? >> we are moving to move the poles to remove the pinch points. there isn't enough room to change the track alignment. it's so tight and part of the overall big squeeze, but that is something i will talk more about. >> great. >> finally on this

studios here in san jose showing all kinds of rain, all kinds of wind going along with that. it came down very hard. we could hear it on the roof this morning. team coverage of the big chill. meteorologist christina loren has your forecast in just a moment, but we'll start things off with christie smith, who joins us live at sacred heart community center in san jose with some people in need getting some help. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. the volunteers are finally starting to show up this morning and, boy, it is cold and wet out here. some of these folks have actually been waiting in line for up to 18 hours just to register for a chance at holiday food and toys. i spoke with one man this morning who told me he is still out of work, there are kids in the home and that's why he is here at sacred heart community service where about 200 people are in line. there are tents out here, some just under umbrellas and blankets. the poverty rate, i spoke with one gentleman and he said for the county it's 10.6%. they expect to distribute about 7,000 food boxes between thanksgiv

are camped out at the sacred heart community service in san jose. janine de la vega joins us with why people are out there. >> reporter: it is raining and cold and wet but look at this, you see all these umbrellas, people have set up tents, tarps, they're sleeping right now. we've seen baby strollers out here. they're desperate for help and they say it's worth it for them to wait in the line because they need help for the holidays. some people have been here since 6:00 p.m. last night. let's go to videos of volunteers unloading crates of donating food here in preparation for this holiday give away. workers are expecting more than 4000 people to show up and register to receive food boxes that included turkey for thanksgiving and thousands of parents are signing up to receive the food boxes for christmas and toys for their children. the nonprofit says that 12% of kids in santa clara county live in poverty. i'm joined now by crystal cordova. you said this is your very first time signing up for this holiday give away. why do you have the need. >> well, i moved here from arkansas with my d

southward just south of san jose along the 101 near morgan hill and gilroy. looks like we're not done just yet. we may catch a dry slot. you can see this one wave of moisture and this low come through here. behind that a little break but there's more right here that's likely to rotate down so we are going to keep things unsettled but these temperatures heading out it's chilly. 37 degrees in santa rosa. 42 san rafael. 41 in the napa valley. and, of course, that's why we're seeing a chance of snow over the tops of the mountains. >> thank you. this is one of the first wet commutes we have had really wet commutes in a while. so we had an earlier traffic alert that's now canceled. that was out in milpitas near the 880/237 interchange. we're also getting reports of some flooding in lanes, some hydroplaning so be extra careful. a lot of these different accidents have been cleared and obviously, it's friday, often we see lighter traffic on a friday. not too many cars on the golden gate bridge. it appears to be moving okay right now across the span. one accident we are continuing to follow is

cliff. >>> we begin with the story of a female body found at a home in san jose. it's a developing story with police still at the scene after getting a 911 call. ktvu's janine de la vega is at the home in south san jose to explain why police suspect this was a homicide. janine? >> reporter: well, tori, police tell us that the woman's body was found face down and she was lying on the floor. the coroner's on the scene right now. at this point, officer are the waiting to get a warrant to search inside this home. authorities received a 911 hangup call and when officers arrived, they heard dogs barking. they called animal control to help. when police finally entered the home, that's when they found the woman's body. while a weapon has not been found, police have reason to believe that she was killed. detectives have been going door to door to see if anyone heard anything. it's unknown who made the 911 call but officers say it did come from the home where the body was found. >> we attempted to call back to confirm there was a prob or determine if there was a problem occur -- problem or d

to death with a samurai sword in san jose has finally been identified. the justice department says the victim is 70-year-old joan ann hughes of new york. she was well known in the west san carlos street neighborhood of san jose. a memorial was set up there in her honor after she was murdered back in august. sketches of her you just saw were released, but it took three months before authorities got a positive i.d. hughes moved to california years ago but became estranged from her family on the east coast. >>> an update now to a story we first brought you last night at 11:00. a man is in jail tonight after a dui stop turned explosive in san jose. this is amateur video of the scene next to that new casino matrix. police say they pulled over 35-year-old james mcgill on north 1st street near 101. while searching his car they found a live pipe bomb. officers then called in the bomb squad, who safely destroyed it. >>> six members of the secretive counterterrorism unit known as s.e.a.l. team 6 are in trouble for helping a redwood city-based video game company. electronic arts paid the s.e.
